Cabarete NightlifeWhere to Dance Salsa and Bachata, Night by Night

Filmed at OJO and Encuentro Food Park, Cabarete

The short answer: if you want to dance in Cabarete, go to Pal Mambo Tuesday or Latin Thursday at OJO. Both run from 9 PM to midnight, play salsa and bachata, are free on a normal week, and are hosted by the Ninafrika dance team, who get the floor going with group dances so nobody has to stand at the edge.

Noche Latina on Fridays at Encuentro Food Park is on a break for now. OJO charges at the door only on special events. Dates and times can change on holidays, so check Ninafrika's schedule before you go.

Cabarete is known for wind and waves. What fewer visitors expect is that the town also dances, several nights a week, and that you don't need to be good at it to join in.

I film these nights because they're one of the best things about living here. Locals, kiters, people who moved here years ago and people who landed yesterday end up on the same floor, doing the same steps. This is where to find them.

Everyone on the same steps: a group dance led by the Ninafrika team.

Tuesday: Pal Mambo at OJO

Pal Mambo Tuesday is the week's first Latin night in Cabarete: salsa and bachata at OJO, in the center of town, from 9 PM to midnight, with free entry.

The floor is a mix of couples who already know each other and people trying their first turns. The Ninafrika team keeps it moving: when they start a group dance, anyone can join in.

If you've never danced salsa, come early: Ninafrika teaches classes upstairs the same day, from 6 to 8 PM, before the party starts at 9. See salsa classes in Cabarete.

Thursday: Latin Thursday, on the Rooftop in High Season

Latin Thursday is the second weekly Latin night at OJO, also 9 PM to midnight and free. In high season it moves upstairs to the rooftop.

That rooftop is the reason Thursday is my favorite. You dance with the sea and the palm trees in front of you, and people having dinner on the sand below.

The Ninafrika team gets the floor going here too. In these clips they're leading the crowd through a routine, step by step. Classes are the same day, 6 to 8 PM upstairs.

Friday: Noche Latina Is on a Break

Noche Latina, the Friday Latin night at Encuentro Food Park, is on a break for now. Check Ninafrika's Latin nights page to see when it's back.

You don't need to know the steps. You need to get on the floor.

Tips for Your First Latin Night in Cabarete

  • You don't need a partner. Group dances need no partner, and asking someone to dance is normal here. A "no, thanks" is normal too.
  • Take a class first if you're nervous. On party days Ninafrika's classes run 6–8 PM upstairs at OJO, before the party starts at 9.
  • Wear shoes you can turn in. Flip-flops grip badly when you spin.
  • Check special events. On holidays and themed nights OJO may charge entry, and the schedule can change.

Learn Before You Go

The Ninafrika dance school teaches salsa, bachata and kizomba in Cabarete, and its team hosts both nights in this guide. Their page has the current schedule and the dates of each night.

Running a Bar or Event in Cabarete?

This article was filmed on a phone, on real nights, with the crowd that actually shows up. That's the footage that makes someone choose your place over the one next door.

Questions people ask

Where can you go dancing in Cabarete?

Two weekly Latin nights: Pal Mambo Tuesday and Latin Thursday, both at OJO in central Cabarete. They run from 9 PM to midnight, play salsa and bachata, and are hosted by the Ninafrika dance school team. Noche Latina, the Friday night at Encuentro Food Park, is on a break for now.

Is there a cover charge for Latin nights in Cabarete?

No, not on a regular week. Entry to Pal Mambo Tuesday and Latin Thursday is free. OJO only charges at the door when it hosts a special event, so check before you go on a holiday or a themed night.

Do I need to know how to dance salsa or bachata?

No. During the party the Ninafrika team gets the floor going and starts group dances you can follow without a partner. They don't teach during the party: if you want the basics first, Ninafrika's classes are earlier the same day, from 6 to 8 PM upstairs at OJO.

What night is best for dancing in Cabarete?

It depends on what you want. Tuesday is the classic salsa and bachata social at OJO. Thursday is the same spirit, and in high season it moves up to the rooftop, with the sea and the palms behind the dance floor.

What time do Latin nights start in Cabarete?

At 9 PM, and they run until midnight. Ninafrika's classes run earlier the same day, from 6 to 8 PM upstairs, which leaves time to grab dinner before the party.
