Cookie Policy
Every cookie this site actually uses — nothing more, nothing hidden.
Last updated: October 24, 2026
1. How this site handles cookies
On your first visit, a banner asks you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. Your choice is stored and respected on every later visit. Analytics cookies are only set if you click "Accept" — if you click "Decline," none of them are set. You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page.
2. Cookies and local storage used on this site
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
da_cookie_consent | darwinalejandro.com (own, browser local storage) | Remembers whether you accepted or declined non-essential cookies, so you're not asked again on every visit. | 12 months | Essential |
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique visitors, used to calculate visit and session statistics. | 2 years | Non-essential (analytics) |
_ga_<container-id> | Google Analytics | Persists session state for this specific Google Analytics 4 property. | 2 years | Non-essential (analytics) |
_gid | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors on a shorter, per-day basis. | 24 hours | Non-essential (analytics) |
_clck | Microsoft Clarity | Keeps the same Clarity user ID across visits to this site. | 1 year | Non-essential (analytics) |
_clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Groups the pages of one visit into a single session recording. | 1 day | Non-essential (analytics) |
The _ga, _ga_*, and _gid cookies are only set by
Google Analytics, and the _clck and _clsk cookies by Microsoft Clarity,
only after you click "Accept" on the cookie banner. Clarity may also set cookies on its own domain
(clarity.ms). See the Privacy Policy for what data each tool collects.
3. What this site does NOT use
As of the date above, this site does not use Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, Hotjar, or any other advertising or retargeting script. The only session-recording tool is Microsoft Clarity, described above. Google Fonts is loaded from Google's servers for typography but does not set a cookie. If any new tracker is added in the future, this table will be updated before it goes live and it will be gated by the same consent banner.
4. Essential vs. non-essential
"Essential" means the site's core function — remembering your cookie choice — depends on it, and it doesn't require consent under GDPR/ePrivacy rules. "Non-essential" means it's used for analytics only, is not required for the site to work, and only runs with your consent.
The WhatsApp button and the contact form do not set any cookie of their own. The contact form submits directly to a server-side script; WhatsApp is an external link to Meta's own app/site, governed by WhatsApp's own cookie practices once you leave this site.
5. Managing or withdrawing consent
Use the "Cookie settings" link in the footer to reopen the banner and change your choice at any time. You can also block or delete cookies directly in your browser settings — note that blocking essential storage may cause the cookie banner to reappear on every visit, since your choice can no longer be remembered.
